Description

"Sherwood Memories - A History of Sherwood Township, Clark County, Wisconsin" is a nonfiction history of a township located in rural central Wisconsin. Sherwood was created in 1874, once named Sherwood Forest, in part because of the large white pine trees that dotted this wilderness landscape when first settled by lumbermen. Those trees were what brought pioneers to the area and trees are what still make this place a beautiful and peaceful area to live in or visit. Included are collections of stories, photos, and memories of Sherwood and its residents from the 1870s until the 1970s. Read firsthand accounts from early settlers about deer hunting, bear trapping, the creation in the 1930s of Sherwood Lake, and more. From lumbering to farming, the land and its people have gone through many changes, not unlike other rural towns throughout the Midwest. This book presents the highlights of many years of research by the author and is meant to be a small souvenir to the world of a place that she is glad to call home.
