Description

ON BEING A WOMAN: PSYCHOPOETIC NOTES FROM A SISTER TRAVELER represents 45 years of participation-observation in & of life by the author. The book, dedicated to Sisters all over the world, is divided into four sections: Notes on Women & Men; Notes on People & Life; Notes on African-Americans; & Notes on Family & Friends. The 115-page book begins & ends with poems on women. Psychopoetry expresses the writers feelings & beliefs in a wide range of emotions, using culture, history, politics, economics & society as a measuring gauge for self-examination. There are several epic poems that speak to the heart & soul of women & African-Americans particularly. Humor & colloquialism can be found in exciting, unexpected places. When the author engages in self-talk, she is sometimes profane as well as prophetic. There is a celebration of differences & differentness--be it gender, race, class, religion or age. Throughout the book there is a sense of hopefulness for some future time. Even when the author is disgusted, there is a certain belief that God is still there, as well as in-dwelling. The authors goal is to get women of all ages & circumstances to begin to write & to tell their stories. She uses the psychopoetic technique in her workshops around the world.
